2-D finite difference modeling can be used to generate shot data from input depth models. Both acoustic and elastic high-order finite difference algorithms are available.

Input would be a depth model with P-wave, S-wave and density describing the model of interest.

A simple low velocity dome is shown where there is no S-wave contract at the base of the dome but a P-wave velocity contrast from 2500m/second to 2600m/second. The deeper P-S event does not contain a horizontal reflection due to the lack of shear impedance contrast.

The algorithms run with or without the inclusion of free-surface multiples.
